Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah's Message
But let me make it clear to you that the State language of Pakistan is going to be Urdu and no other language. Anyone who tries to mislead you is really the enemy of Pakistan. Without one State language, no nation can remain tied up solidly together and function. Look at the history of other countries.

(Dhaka, March 21, 1948)

The Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973
National Language

(3) Without prejudice to the status of the National language, a Provincial Assembly may by law prescribe measures for the teaching, promotion and use of a provincial language in addition to the national language.
